Recently the John J. Hemmingson foundation pledged $250,000 in support of the University of Idaho’s transformation of historic Targhee Hall into the new home for the University of Idaho’s ROTC programs and the General James Amos Veterans Center.

Targhee Hall Renovation Project
Originally built in 1912, Targhee Hall has long been part of the University of Idaho campus. It is now being renovated to better serve military-affiliated students with updated spaces for learning, training, and support. Our $250,000 donation helps support this revitalization, contributing to a facility designed to honor service and meet the needs of more than 200 cadets and midshipmen and over 350 veterans and their families each year.
When completed, the renovated Targhee Hall will house Idaho’s first Joint ROTC and Military & Veteran Assistance Center—a vibrant, welcoming space designed to empower students on their educational and service journeys. The facility will offer:
- Dedicated classrooms, simulators and a wellness center
- Collective training opportunities
- Expanded student-to-student and enlisted-to-officer-candidate mentoring
- Onsite counseling and injury and disability rehabilitation
- Increased engagement and sense of belonging
This project builds on more than 130 years of military instruction at the University of Idaho and ensures that future generations of service members have the tools, resources, and support networks they need to succeed.

The John J. Hemmingson Foundation attended a recognition gala hosted by the University of Idaho, honoring donors who have made meaningful contributions across campus.
How You Can Support the Future of Targhee Hall
Like many transformative projects, the renovation of Targhee Hall continues to rely on the generosity of partners, alumni, and friends. Additional support will help create a facility that truly serves as a home and resource for those who dedicate their lives to service.
